This position supervises appraisal division of the Revenue Department. Oversees and participates in appraisal and valuation of real and personal property which is subject to ad valorem tax. Trains and instructs other personnel using the methods outlined in the Alabama State manuals for appraisal, mapping and personal property. Conducts market studies and compiles sales data and construction costs. Under the administrative direction of the Revenue Commissioner, the Chief Appraiser supervises the work of Real Property Appraisers, Personal Property Appraiser, Mapping Technicians, support staff and any other personnel assigned to the Appraisal & Mapping Department. The Chief Appraiser conducts ratio studies, index studies, and land value studies.

 

 

Requirements

Associates degree in business administrations, accounting, taxation, law, property valuation or related fields plus 5 years of experience in property appraisal. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be acceptable for consideration. Would prefer individual with at least five years of supervisory experience. Completion of courses in appraisal offered by professional appraisal societies, such as IAAO or SPA preferred.
